Webinar AIESEC for Students Council

On the 19th of August 2020, the students council, administrator and all students of St Nicholas School participated in a webinar sponsored by International Association of Students in Economic and Commercial Sciences (AIESEC). AIESEC is an international youth-run, non-governmental and not-for-profit organization that provides young people with leadership development, cross-cultural internships and global volunteer exchange experiences.

In the webinar, the representatives of AIESEC explained the importance of drinking eight glasses of water per day as it could boost productivity and our body’s health. They also explained on how to tell if our body is dehydrated or whether the presence of water is too much than the regular intake.

They explained that the color of our urine is a key detail whether our body needs less or more water. Dark-yellowish means that our body needs more water, while transparent urine or near transparent urine means that our body has too much water. It was explained that it was especially important to keep the water level in our body as regulated as possible. Too much water in our body could be deadly.

I personally enjoyed the webinar as they kept it semi-formal and they had plenty of questions prepared beforehand for us to answer in a fun way. There was also a ‘Q and A’ session for everyone to freely ask questions in relation to the topic discussed by the AIESEC representatives. (Jencellin FW- G12B)

Even though our country is still hit by the Coronavirus Disease (COVID -19) pandemic, but we still show our spirit of independence and patriotism towards our nation through the series of competition activities.

After the speech, the event continued with a warm-up exercises. After warm-up exercises, then continued with a technical meeting to explain the rules and guidelines of the competition which was explained by Mr. Figur, the PIC of this event. This year’s Sport day holds 5 types of competitions, namely: Kahoot Competition, Push up challenge, Plank challenge, Bottle flip and Speed bounce. All series of competition events are conducted online using the zoom application.

During the competition, all teachers were involved to facilitate in the activities. Several teachers were appointed as the jury to calculate the points for each competitor. Two participants in each category of the competition who got the highest points became the winners in the competition. The winners were announced directly by the MC (Ms. Mega and Ms. Endang). The prizes were sent directly to the students.

Even though the competition was held online, but the students were still very enthusiastic and eager to participate in the competition. All the programs run smoothly and successfully. This sport day event is an annual program sponsored by Saint Nicholas Foundation to commemorate the anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. (Figur WJ)

Sports Day in Primary Division

“An active mind, a cheerful heart, and a lively spirit are all that it takes for immense positivity and great enthusiasm.”

Primary Division Virtual Sports Day Competition with a Theme: “Minute to Win It”, paves the way to deeply encouraged children that health is wealth. As health at its utmost importance and deliberately be given extreme attention, the activities were held to be at its highest peak to achieve this goal.

The first-ever Virtual Sports Day in Primary Division was held on 14 August 2020, Friday. The activities were carefully planned and designated for both lower and higher primary students. Each activity has its time duration to be played by the students in their respective homes. Students with the number of precise points in each activity, and finally with the highest combination of points in all activities will win the competition.

Lower and higher primary students were given an invitation where the entire activities. They need to ‘click’ its respective activity and they were automatically directed to it. The invitation was given before the event, to give them time to practice their respective designated activities. Moreover, the materials in each activity were given ahead, so the students would have enough time to prepare them.

As part of the ‘new normal’ virtual system, students need to take a video of themselves while doing each activity. The recorded videos were sent in the Google Classroom to the respective class teachers, while their scores were being inputted in the Google Form. The authenticity of their scores relies on the videos they submitted in the Google Classroom.

Lower Primary students had shown their enthusiastic abilities as they individually exert efforts in doing their assigned activities.

Higher primary students on the other hand have shown their aggressive, competitive side, and eagerness.

In this virtual sports day, parents had given their full support towards their children for their constant encouragement and motivation while teachers worked hand-in-hand to keep the event organized and smooth. Indeed, there is strength and power in unity!

Aside from health concerns and safety matters, this event taught the children the importance of physical activity as part of their lives as well as sportsmanship. Doing things they don’t constantly do would somehow reinforce the value of appreciating things in life, such as their strength and be grateful to it. As quoted by Joseph Pilates, “Physical Fitness is the first requisite of happiness.” Thus, being happy is staying healthy. (Geramae)
